Smoking Ban Denies Adults The Right To Let Addiction Make Decisions For Them

Civil rights groups have criticised the Tory bill to ban smoking this week, insisting that it violates citizens’ freedom to let addiction call the shots. “The bill is a fragrant infringement on freedom of addiction,” commented Liz Truss, who voted against the bill, “and that’s government overreach.”

The bill, which bans the purchase of tobacco for everyone born after 2009, received widespread bi-partisan support in the House of Commons. “This reflects a callous disregard for ordinary people’s choice to be enslaved to their desires,” Truss pointed out.

“Like my father, and his father before him, I’m dominated by my base passions,” she said, “it’s our way of life and we won’t let tyranny take that away.” She went on to claim that, “This [the bill] is a slippery slope that’ll lead to government caring about the wellbeing of citizens more generally. No thanks!”

At press time, Truss told reporters that she could stop championing free choice whenever she wanted to, it's totally under her control.
